September is almost half way over already!!!

These first weeks have flown by! We are almost finished with ur first 20 day set up for reading and writing workshop and I will begin  reading groups next week. I have assessed all students in Words their Way and they are beginning spelling groups this week.  In math we will be finishing up with addition and subtraction properties and rules by taking a summative assessment and starting multiplication and division!  Students are bringing home math and grammar homework nightly (except Fridays!) and will soon be required to read at home as well.  In Science, we are working on the rock cycle and different types of rocks; we will have an assessment soon and then start our first unit of Social Studies.

What a week!

Today was our 6th day of school and it has been a great 6 days.  We have been busy learning routines and setting up our reading and writing workshops.  We have been working on math since day 1 and will have a test over chapter 1 Friday or Monday.  I have enjoyed getting to know each student and, don’t tell anyone, but I think I got the absolute best 4th graders on the planet! I will start assessing spelling tomorrow and we will soon be assessing reading levels and starting reading groups.  Students will be brining reading home several nights a week when groups start, this is in addition to math and grammar homework.
